Ayesha Hazarika
Ayesha has a soft lilting native Scottish accent! Ex-government spin doctor Ayesha Hazarika, has rapidly climbed the comedy ladder over the past three years to astonishing effect. Much in demand both on the circuit, and as a radio correspondent, she can regularly be heard on LBC radio and BBC Radio Five Live.
Since becoming a semi-finalist on Channel 4's So You Think You're Funny competition in 2003, she's been successfully gigging across the UK comedy circuit as both a stand-up and compere. On television Ayesha's many appearances include; 'Take The Mike' (ITV), 'The Daily Politics Show' (BBC 1), 'Big Brother's Big Mouth' (Channel 4) and 'The Morning Breakfast Show (BBC 1). She has also appeared on countless talking head shows including '30 Greatest Political Comedies' (MORE4), 'Greatest Ever Scary Movies' (Diverse TV), 'Greatest TV Wind-Ups (Objective TV), 'Top TV Moments' (Channel 5) & 'The 100 Greatest Cartoons' (Channel 4). On radio Ayesha is equally at home discussing heavy weight politics, as light weight trivia. Her many appearances include Woman's Hour (BBC Radio 4) and regular guest slots on The Sandi Toksvig Show (LBC), The Anita Anand Show (BBC Radio 5), The Worricker Programme (BBC Radio 5),The Jenny Eclair Show (LBC), and The Brian Hayes Show (Radio 5). In August 2005 Ayesha co-presented the Fred MacAulay Show for BBC Scotland and more recently joined the BBC Asian Network hit soap, 'Silver Street', playing the role of Manisha Ayesha is a prolific writer. As of March 2006 she took over the reins of a column in Asiana Magazine, previously written by Meera Syal and for BBC television she was invited to write on a show called 'The Leadership Challenge. In her government spin-doctoring days she was a regular contributor to The Times, Guardian, Independent, Observer, New Statesman, specialist trade press, women's magazines and football club programmes. In March 2004, Ayesha devised and performed in 'Funny Women Stand Up for International Women's Day' - a high profile event held at London's Cafe de Paris. The huge success of this event led to further shows in 2005 & 2006 and a change of venue to the glamorous Cafe Royal. In autumn 2005 Ayesha went back to her politics roots and performed stand-up at the Labour Party Conference. Other prestigious shows include 'Peace in the Middle East 2004' – a star-studded benefit gala at The Comedy Store, where Ayesha performed alongside Rob Newman and former Labour MP and Cabinet Minister Tony Benn. For the past two years Ayesha has performed at the Edinburgh Festival. In 2004 she appeared in 'The Amused Moose Comedy's Hot Starlets', which showcased stars in the making, and 'Funny Women at the Fringe, a unique platform for female comedy. In 2005 she appeared in "Two Birds Go Into A Bar" with fellow comedienne Zoe Lyons. The same year she also performed at 'The BBC Stand Up Show' and' Funny Women at the Fringe'. Ayesha will return to Edinburgh in 2006 as part of Funny Women at the Fringe.
