May News

By The Comedy Club on June 2, 2008 at 9:03 am | Filed under The Comedy Club News

The Comedy Club ElstreeComedy Comedy Comedy! Here at The Comedy club we’ve been spreading the comedy club love in May and there have been some fantastic gigs; Brian Higgins closed the last night of the Spring season at The Comedy Club Milton Keynes (City Limits), Chambers & Nettleton compered the third night in our new Comedy Club Witham venue, Capitol Square and John Ryan set The Comedy Club Elstree off to a storming opening nights performance at Holiday Inn Elstree. It doesn’t stop there though as Gerry K, Kevin Coleman and Rudi Lickwood all appeared on Sky Poker as well!

Further news on The Comedy Club saw the launch of our new ‘Comedy Club Star Performer’ - each week we focus on 2 top comedians from the prestigious comedy circuit and give you the stand-up low down on the hottest acts around, including some information you may not have known before. Gerry K, Phil Butler and Mike Gunn are up now so take a look our Comedy Club Star Performers.

The Gossip! - Fancy buying yourself a slice of comedy history? Well if you have a spare £5000, comedian Ronnie Barker’s script for ‘The Phantom Rasberry Blower of London Town’ is set for auction at Cirencester based firm Dominic Winter in June. Re-written in 1976 by Ronnie Barker from a Spike Milligan script, the it was thought to be lost and so was never included his book ‘All I Ever Wrote’. Low and behold it was being stashed away after Ronnie Barker donated the piece to a fundraising auction back in ‘76.

In further news, The Edinburgh Fringe Festival comedy organisers have announced there are already more than 400 shows set for the August festival. Both the number of shows and attendance is expected to be up on last year which had 668 acts!

Comedy Gossip

We dig deeper for the gossip

Branded a Villain - Ready to break America, Russell Brand was due to appear on the huge David Letterman show this week to plug his new movie ’Forgetting Sarah Marshall’, and everything was looking good. Of course, that was until he met US immigration at New York’s JFK Airport who turned Brand away citing his old drug convictions. Never one to dwell to deeply, Russell joked “‘Now that I know what it’s like to be an illegal immigrant, I’ve cancelled my membership to the BNP”.

Gorman: ’G’ stands for Genuis - Dave Gorman’s Radio 4 show ’Genius’ is heading for BBC2. Having ordered 6 episodes of the show, we’ve been told to expect even more of the daft, big, silly and inspired ideas that has made his radio show such a success. Think Top Gear, Tomorrow’s World and Blue Peter all in a mixing bowl with some great results including - fizzy Bovril, mini elephants as pets and breathalysers on your mobile phone to stop you making regrettable calls!

Win 2 free tickets to a show of your choice!

“I’ll just lean it round the corner” - Famous lasts words from this unfortunate caption! Submit Your Joke Caption Here and you’ll not only have it bit of fun, but if your entry is judged the funniest on 2nd June then you’ll win 2 free tickets to a show of your choice.
